Background

In 1982 I became too ill to continue working in the city, constantly suffering from allergies, fatigue and poor health I had become sensitive to many of the aspects about our modern day living that we take for granted, things like air conditioning, fragrances, vehicle exhaust fumes, some food stuffs, and even pets. My symptoms were very much those of Sick Building Syndrome which consequently required a complete change of life for me in order to be able to function in society.

After traveling around Australia and regaining some of his former health, I turned my attention to building a mud brick home and worked on others in Central Victoria, home educated 3 children at a Primary School level, and studied and practiced Permaculture, organic gardening and alternative health from 1985 to 1997. In the mid 1990's I came across the concept of Building Biology and began an active study of the subject. In 1998 I traveled to America were I worked and completed my studies in Building Biology and received Building Biologist Practitioner & Environmental Inspector Diplomas.

At the time I was the first Australian to be certified as an Environmental Inspector (US IBE Clearwater Fl). In 2000, after I had returned to Australia and had established Building Biology Australia, I had the opportunity to introduce Building Biology to the study of Feng Shui in Australia. This ultimately led to the writing and tutoring of a Health Hazards in the Home Course for Australian Feng Shui practitioners and other interested people between 2000 and 2004.

From this early start the Health Hazards in the Home course evolved into the current accredited Building Biology course being offered by the Australian College of Environmental Studies in Box Hill where I still occasionally attend and tutor as a guest lecturer.

In 2003 I studied and received a Certificate 4 in Assessment & Workplace Training, and became a Green Building Council of Australia, Green Star Accredited Professional in 2005.
To add to my ability to achieve the highest possible standards for my clients, I also attained in 2007, the First Rate V4 Energy Rating certification and early in 2008 became a certified Mould Inspector & Remediator level 2 which enables me to sample for air and surface fungi and to remediate  basic levels of mould contamination.

I have been working as a Healthy Building Consultant from 1998 to the present time advising on a number of new and renovation projects and carrying out numerous building inspections both commercial and residential.

It has always been my aim to help people to realise that health hazards can exist in their homes and workplaces, and that ignoring those hazards not only has an adverse effect on their health, but in a wider sense, on the ecology of the planet.
